Day 1 – A Shock to the System

DonnaDay1

Today we brought Donna home. Donna is a 1969 Mustang Hardtop Coupe. She rolled off the assembly line in San Jose, CA, on October 8, 1968. She was (and still is) Wimbledon White with a black vinyl interior, a 210HP 302ci 2 Valve V8 with a C4 automatic transmission turning a 2.79 rear end. She is sequential number 115666, but for us she is number 1.

We found Donna sitting in a used car lot near my company.

We knew she had a broken rear shock when we picked her up, so we had already ordered both front and rear KYB Gas-Adjust Shocks. The first order of business was to get them on so we could drive her and see what else needed immediate attention.

The previous owner had rebuilt the engine and left all the original parts (plus a lot of other junk) in the trunk:

So we unloaded all the stuff, sorting out the parts from the trash until we had a empty trunk.

Then the back seat had to come out to give us access to the rear upper shock mounts.

And finally we could remove the old shocks and install the new ones.

We then moved on to the front which were a bit more complicated due to the springs and shock tower configuration of the stang.

It was a beautiful day and we got the shocks on and drove her around a bit before calling it a day.
