as in, “let’s take off all our clothes…” Well, not clothes really, but everything not welded onto Donna, which is kind of like clothes. It has been way too long since we last worked with Donna. Life just kept getting in the way, but over this Christmas break (school wise), I took vacation and we got several days of work in.
We took out the dash pad and the instrument cluster and the blank panel over the glove box. Then the steering wheel came out.
This gave us access to the lower dash panel which includes the heater controls. Basically, everything unplugs from the wiring harness and there is a big plug for all the vacuum lines for the heater controls. There are really not many bolts to remove and the whole thing pulls free.
Then we slowly extracted the wiring harness from each and every place it was plugged in or strapped down. In each case we removed the light or switch or whatever was plugged in. By the time we were finished there was little left…
Hopefully in the next few days we will remove the heater/air-conditioning box and associated vacuum lines and controls. Next will be the parking brake mechanism, the pedals, some brake and fuel lines and that should be it!
We also put the engine on the engine stand for now:
