Day 1789 – Long Road to Get On The Road

Well, It’s been a while since you’ve heard from us. We are still here, and as of last weekend we are still working on Donna. We will detail the paint and body journey soon. For now, we will just say “that took longer than we thought it would…”

Donna is back in her garage and over this last weekend we got everything cleaned and organized, went through all the parts and pieces to refamiliarize ourselves with the tasks ahead, and started something. The “something” is the dash. We were going to start installing the new wiring harness, but it interacts with the dash so much we realized the dash needs to be back in before the wiring.

We removed the remaining clips, both plastic and metal, so we cold take it to powder coat. The ash tray, lighter, and their frame needed to be taken apart by removing rivets which will be replaced by screws. Also, we want a place to mount the USB input into the radio and the lighter location seemed perfect for that.

Donna-USB Lighter

This required enlarging the hole the lighter used, modifying the bezel of the USB mount, and fabricating a bushing so we could tighten the nut to hold it all in place.

Donna USB Back

Now it will all go to powder coat for cleanup and a nice satin black coating. It feels good to be working on her again!
